Welcome to Snowdonia Flight School
The Snowdonia Flight School is located at Llanbedr Airfield which is situated on the North Wales coast in Llanbedr near Harlech. The airfield opened in 1941 as part of the RAF Fighter Command’s 12 Group. It has a fascinating RAF and wartime history. During the Second World War, RAF Llanbedr was home to thirty-two different RAF Squadrons on rotation which flew a variety of aircraft (Spitfire, Mustang, Typhoon, Anson, Lysander and Martinet). The airfield also served as a Royal Air Force V bomber dispersal airfield and, more recently, used for military weapons training. The site closed in October 2004, but re-opened in May 2014, catering for the needs of the general aviation community in the area. It is great flying country, free from controlled airspace, with excellent facilities including fuel and food stops with stunning views of the wonderful Welsh countryside and coastline. Come and visit us by road or air, we have ample car and visiting aircraft parking space and enjoy a very warm welcome, with lots to see.
On holiday in the area? We are located next to Shell Island which offers a caravan and camp site and much more. There are many other great camping facilities nearby and its a dream area for aviation enthusiasts! If you fancy taking to the skies, book an experience flight to see the wonderful North Wales scenery, including the Llyn Peninsula or the Snowdon mountain range in our aircraft.
We offer flight training packages to suit every budding Private Pilot; this can vary from intensive courses, or learn at a more leisurely pace to fit around your work commitments with our professional instructors. Browse the website, it’s full of useful information! Then come over to see us for cup of tea and a chance to gather further information.

Warning Not Aviation related. I am away this week, down south and it is like a game of two halves, yesterday we had a day to be very proud of in London where our eldest daughter Cara graduated with a first class honours at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, part of The University of London. Later this week is the funeral of my late mother in law and Leila’s mother, that will be a very sad day of course but today we can say Congratulations to Cara.
Looking back on the first year of Snowdonia Flight School I thought I would reflect on our achievements and share them with you: - We have completed over 370 flights - We have managed to help get 4 students ready for solo flight. - Two students of the flight school have their pilots license. - We have built a highly sophisticated flight simulator which is fully immersive incorporating a Piper 28 cockpit and an 8 foot high and diameter curved screen amongst an impressive list of features. - We have helped several students pass their groundschool exams with over 45 exams taken with a pass rate of 98% - We have improved pilot safety by investing in FLARM, 360Radar base stations, cameras and weather stations accessed by pilots through our website, www.flysnowdonia.com which has gone through significant development. - We have supported 5 different charities with flights offered as prizes. - Above all it’s offered locals and visitors the opportunity to see our wonderful picturesque scenery from a birds eye view, which I never get tired of seeing and everybody who sees it is spellbound. If you don’t believe me please look at our TripAdvisor, Facebook or Google reviews. Non of this could be achieved without the great support from Richard Jowitt, Simon Clayton, Ed Holinshead, Adrian Willis and of course Snowdonia Aerospace. Going forward, we would love to add to our fleet and extend what we offer including Taildragger training, Instrument training and aerobatics to name just as few of our ambitions. Please take advantage of the flight school, I think it offers something special to the area. Here is our promotional film.
We provide flight experiences, enjoy the thrill of flying over the picturesque North Wales coastline and countryside, an experience not to be forgotten. We provide comprehensive flight training. Above all the combination of our friendly and professional staff and great location creates a unique blend that will ensure your flying experience is of the highest quality.
